Connecting Today's Kids with Nature, A Policy Action Plan

NWF Logo
The lecture will be presented by a member of the Education Staff of the NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION (NWF) The title Connecting Today's Kids with Nature, A Policy Action Plan, is the action plan released by the National wildlife Federation last spring. You can find the whole plan and summaries of it by going to www.nwf.org and typing in the name of the plan on the search line. You will come to a list of the complete paper and the summaries. (The complete plan has a picture of a boy swinging by his hands from a tree on the right side of the cover.) NWF has been a very strong advocate of Richard Louv's book, "The Last Child in the Woods" and also of the No Child Left Inside Coalition, which is working to guarantee environmental education be taught to all children in the United States.

NWF has a program called Green Hour. The following is a quote from their website regarding this program.

"Most importantly, by giving our children a "Green Hour" a day -- a bit of time for unstructured play and interaction with the natural world -- we can set them on the path toward physical, mental, and emotional well-being. And at GREENHOUR.ORG, you'll find inspiration and ideas to do just that. Each week we publish a fresh issue full of activities and information to help guide the exploration and focus on fun."
