2017 PAEE CONFERENCE PROGRAMS
The theme of this year’s conference – Deepening Connections, Inspiring Innovation – celebrates what makes PAEE conferences so special: the connections we form with each other, with nature, and with our profession. McKeever is the perfect setting to recharge and reconnect with nature and the community of environmental educators, while sharing best practices to promote and inspire excellence.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: DAVID W. ORRDavid W. Orr is Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College and the author of 8 books including Ecological Literacy (1992), Earth in Mind (1994/2004), and Dangerous Years: Climate Change and the Long Emergency (2016). He has authored over 220 articles, reviews, book chapters, and professional publications on the issues of education and sustainability.

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPSThere will be two workshops offered at McKeever the day before the conference (3/12):

EDUCATOR WORKSHOPSEach year the PAEE conference features high-quality workshops that give attendees experiences to improve their programming, facilities, partnerships and staff trainings. The workshops will be interactive, engaging and fun, while taking advantage of McKeever's indoor and outdoor teaching spaces.

EE CAPACITY WORKSHOPEnvironmental education is a diverse field with aspects ranging from biology and environmental justice to advocacy and early childhood development. Not only is it diverse in how the work is conducted, but it is also diverse in who and where it is present. This workshop will focus on diversity and its context within environmental education. We will explore the visible gaps in Pennsylvania, while highlighting what the EE Capacity team learned while working to increase access, equity and knowledge for our communities.

FIELD TRIPS & OFF-SITE VISITSWe are excited to partner with local organizations and businesses to offer a series of field trips to highlight local history, ecology, education and sustainability projects in the region. Be sure to pack your suitcase with clothing and boots that let you stay warm and dry, rain or shine.

ANIMAL AMBASSADORSThe Animal Rescue League and Wildlife Center is committed to educate the public on the interesting and unknown behaviors of animals through their Animal Ambassadors program. The Wildlife Center cares for, rehabilitates, and releases sick, injured, or orphaned Pennsylvania wildlife in the Pittsburgh region.

DOCUMENTARY SCREENING: THE MESSENGERThe Messenger is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the compassionate people who are working to turn the tide. The film takes viewers on a visually stunning journey revealing how the problems facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet and ourselves.
